I’m with basko, a three or four pass shave, a cold water rinse, a splash of witch hazel, some cheapo ASB and I’ve got a bright shining face for 12-14 hours. Maybe you should moisturize again later in the day.
… what a LOSER!

I think you guys might be right. I covered my face in moisturizer before bed, and my skin looks better. I usually use after shave balm as a moisturizer again later in the day, but I’m wondering if it isnt enough.
I’m thinking the DE shaving might not be beating me up, but it MIGHT be causing more dryness because it is a closer shave.
Maybe I need to up it a bit. I’m just NOT excited about going back to cartridge razors, although I had some good shaves with the atra/ trac II. theres just no heart.

I echo the suggestions for moisturizer. Nivea Sensitive balm works great, comes in a nice glass bottle and is dirt cheap.

I think you’re on the right track. Given the exfoliation of DE shaving, I find my skin is smoother and softer than it ever was with a cart.
By the way, I use AOS balms and gels. They seem to work well for me.

Hey, nothing wrong at all if the Trac II works for you. It’s all about finding what you get the best results with, nothing else. The Personna Bump Fighter handle is great, it’s heavier than the Gillette version and has a nice grippy handle.

I also had some skin dryness and tightness until I switched to cold water rinse only. That seemed to do the trick.

Interesting Post as my skin looks a lot better with either the Straight, DE or SE shaves.
However, the razor is not the reason.
I shower first and wash my face and make sure that the beard is wet.
I then finish my shower and get ready for the shave.
Sometimes, I was my face with a preshave soap after the lather is ready.
Then, I shave with a crappy CVS, Walgreen or Grocery Store Blade … in a Goodfella Razor (The Open Comb Razor I am currenty using).
Then, I rinse, lather, shave (WTG)
Then, I rinse, lather, shave (XTG)
Then, I rinse, lather, shave (Reverse-XTG)
Then, I rinse, lather, shave (ATG)
Then, I rinse, lather or use a non foaming gel and shave (buffing or J-Hooking)
Then, I rinse my face in Hot Water and clean my brush.
Then, I rinse my face in Cold Water and finish cleaning my brush.
Then, I put Witch Hazel on a pad and wipe my face, (Then, I am thinking about wiping my face with an Alum Block but I have not done that yet.).
Then, I put on Nivea, or Trumpers Skin Food or Corn Huskers.
Then, I put on some aftershave.
Then, I put on some cologne if I want.
Now I work in a office so I am not outside all of the time. But, sometimes I put some face lotion on my face later in the day.
But most of the time my face feels and looks soft and clean shaven.

Any non-alcohol balm should work, such as Nivea, Real Shaving Co., AOS.
I use all of these, and some Lubriderm lotion on top of that.
If your is not moisturized reapply.

Everyone is different. And finding what works for you can take a long time. I am able to shave 6 or even 7 days a week and not have any problems. But in the past I have had times when shaving 7 days a week and perhaps not applying all that I know and shaving with proper care that I have felt a bit of hurt as a result.
DOn’t stop experimenting with things. One thing you could try is a few drops of Extra Virgin Olive Oil rubbed into the skin as a Pre-Shave Oil. While this is not necessarily a crucial thing for the average shaver, believe me it can’t hurt. And EVOO nourishes the skin. After shaving, there is no evidence whatsoever that you used it as a PSO. In fact it feels quite good. One thing I have found helpful is strictly following the method shaving cutting forms of Charles Roberts. Just google this and check it out, although you probably already have.
Good luck!
